Partners In Time
While the initial pairing between these two started as wedding ceremony musicians, the legacy of the cello-guitar duo goes back centuries. As far back as the 19th century, composers like Frederic Burgmüller were including the guitar as accompaniment to the cello. It’s no wonder why. The cello’s broad melodic range, and the guitar’s varied textures offer composers and arrangers so many tools to chose from. Heitor Villa-lobos’s famous Bachianas Brasileras No. 5, originally set for voice and guitar, is seamlessly transitioned to the duo. De Falla’s Siete Canciones Populares Españolas offers similar satisfaction. The guitar demonstrates its Spanish heritage while allowing the cello to shine lyrically. When the fascination for this charming duo of cello and guitar subsided is unknown. But one thing is for sure, people know what they like. When couples wanted this sound for their weddings, a flood of arrangements followed. The best-loved music of the Beatles makes for best-loved arrangements of them for cello and guitar. Rounding out this journey through time is a collection of jazz standards. For audiences, it’s a chance to hear their favorites in a new setting. For this duo, it’s a chance to show the musical depth and virtuosity of these 21st century musicians.

Open HOuse Weekend
The annual Open House is an opportunity for students to show off what they do here at the studio. And, it’s an opportunity for members of the community to find out the studio and all the great things we do here. This year, the Open House will be shared with the ‘other studio resident’: The Tini Gallery. New pieces by our fave artists and new artist friends alike. Saturday 10-3 for Highland Guitar Studio; Sunday 10-3 for The Tini Gallery. Live Music on both days.

Strum Session September
This session we’ll be doing a review for Open House Weekend on September 21 & 22.
